The Vacationers by Emma Straub

One of the best books to read on vacation is 'The Vacationers,' for a reason that’s almost self-explanatory. As the title suggests, it’s in a vacation setting, specifically Mallorca, Spain. This book by Emma Straub is about the Post family that currently has a lot of drama in their lives. First, the parents are somehow trying to save their marriage, but are doing so half-heartedly. Then, they have a daughter who ends up falling for her Spanish tutor while their son insists on dating a much older woman who’s not exactly popular. It’s a catchy story that’ll keep you engaged and you’ll also appreciate Emma’s descriptions of the attractions in Mallorca including details on the islands’ tasty meals.

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

If you’re looking for an easy read while on vacation that’ll keep you intrigued, then Delia Owens’ ‘Where the Crawdads Sing' is an amazing option. It’s a New York Times Bestseller that revolves around the life of a young isolated girl Kya Clark, who finds some solace and education in nature. The setting of the story is in Barkley Cove, North Carolina, a quiet town whereby rumors of the ‘Marsh Girl’ have haunted the residents for years. Kya, the Marsh Girl, is suspected to be the killer of an arrogant young man Chase Andrews, a town boy who took interest in her, in 1969 and was suddenly found dead. However, she’s not who people think she is. After years of isolation, she desires to be loved. Two young men from the town are suddenly intrigued by her wild beauty, something that makes Kya become more open to a new kind of life until the unthinkable happens. Guess you’d have to get this book to find out what.

Craigslist Confessional: A Collection of Secrets from Anonymous Strangers by Helena Dea Bala

Another one that makes it to our list of the best books to read on vacation is Helena Dea Bala’s 'Craigslist Confessional: A collection of Secrets from Anonymous Strangers.' It’s an interesting book that Helena says she wrote on a whim. You’ll love it if you’ve always wondered what strangers are thinking about, if you’d like to know some of their secrets. Helena simply created a Craigslist ad on which she offered to listen to random people’s secrets. This venture then became a popular online column and website and she eventually made it a book. When you start reading this book during your vacation you’ll end up tearing through the pages with immense fascination for sure.

The Vanishing Half by Britt Bennet

Looking for something more engrossing, exciting and thought-provoking while you recharge? Brit Bennet’s coming-of-age masterpiece The Vanishing Half’ will do the job. It’s a book set in the 1960s that revolves around the lives of identical twins, Stella and Desiree Vignes. At the young age of 16, the two leave their small town of Mallard, Louisiana. While Desiree moves back home with a child, Stella decides to disappear and chooses to start living as a white woman. This read is simply epic as Brit captures the long-lasting impact Stella’s life choices have on her twin sister, daughter, niece and most of all, herself.

You Had Me at Hola by Alexis Daria

This is probably one of the best books to read on vacation particularly if you’re a fan of telenovelas. You’ll love award-winning author Alexis Darla’s 'You Had Me at Hola.' Reading this book as you recharge will keep you so entertained because it’s simply hilarious. Alexis brings her readers into the set of a romantic comedy kind of telenovela whereby Jasmine Lin Rodriguez is the subject. She’s a telenovela star whose very public breakup makes her the topic of discussion in all the tabloids around, something that discourages her from looking for love again. Just when she thought she was over it, she lands a role in a romantic comedy alongside a hunk in New York City.
